A Chakra Journey of Transformation
Maya Tulum Resort, Riviera Maya
Join Pineapple Yoga Studio for an unforgettable journey of exploration and self-discovery. The Maya Tulum Resort is one of Mexico’s premier destinations for beachfront yoga and wellness. This one-of-a-kind retreat offers pristine views of the Caribbean Sea, seclusion, serenity and peace ~ ideal attributes for the exploration of the physical and metaphysical Chakra system and ancient practice of yoga.
The PYS Maya Retreat is a Chakra balancing journey starting with the Root Chakra (relating to your instincts, security, survival and your potential) and ending with the Crown Chakra (our highest consciousness and our connection to the Divine). We will use journaling to explore the Chakras, their meaning, and how we experience them through the subtle anatomy of our bodies. The journal will chronicle your journey and help you identify imbalances, work through them and enable you to find balance, harmony, equanimity and homeostasis. We will give you the tools that foster Love and Kindness for Self as the basis for the deepest kind of transformation and change in your life. Our days will be filled with exploration, Asanas (yoga postures), Meditation, and Journal writing.
Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit, the ancient language of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. According to yoga philosophy, the Chakras represent energy centers in the body where the body and spirit meet. When the Chakras are open and balanced, vital life force (prana) flows freely throughout the body. Each Chakra represents important and vital aspects of our being, from the physical and emotional to the spiritual. When the Chakras are not in balance, the flow of energy is obstructed, resulting in mental, physical or emotional pain. The goal of this retreat is to bring the Chakras into balance to fulfill your fullest potential and for optimal wellbeing.
No prior yoga experience or knowledge of yoga is required to participate in this retreat. It is open to everyone, all levels and all bodies! All that is required is your willingness to breath and explore.

Your days will begin with a healthy breakfast of fresh locally sourced foods in the resort dining hall, serving a variety of Mexican dishes. This includes 60 minutes of asana (yoga postures), followed by guided meditation and an introduction to the Chakras and journal assignment. After your morning session, you’ll have time to reflect, rest, and journal at your leisure.
Our afternoon yoga session is a 45 minute all levels slow flow yoga practice followed by group discussion. Our group discussions will foster community, loving-kindness, forgiveness, and support your personal exploration and the groups’ experience. After the afternoon practice, you’ll have additional time to rest, walk the beach, enjoy a spa treatment or take a swim in the Caribbean Sea. Dinner is served in the dining hall buffet style where you’ll enjoy the succulent tastes of Mexico.
We complete our day with Tibetan Sound Bath meditation using Tibetan singing bowls synchronized to each Chakra to help balance them and prepare you for a peaceful night sleep in paradise.
Your Day Trip to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere and the Ancient Ruins of Muyil
Sian Ka’an means “Origin of the Sky” in the ancient language of the Mayan people. The biosphere is a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the east coast of the Yucatán peninsula. This reserve contains tropical forests, mangroves and marshes, as well as a marine habitat intersected by a barrier reef. It is a rich habitat of flora and fauna, and over 300 species of birds and terrestrial vertebrates, which inhabit this unique hydrological ecosystem. It is part of more than 200 conservation projects aimed at implementing environmental and sustainable use of natural resources policies in the Yucatán.
Our full-day adventure to Sian Ka’an and the ancient city of Muyil is scheduled on Monday. Lunch boxes will be provided by the resort for your excursion. Upon reaching Muyil, a guide will show us the ruins and explain the importance of this ancient Mayan trading post and the Ixel moon goddess. On our way to Muyil lagoon, you will climb to the highest view point of the Sian Ka’an and enjoy panoramic views of the reserve. Once we meet our local skipper, we will go on a two hour boat trip across the wetlands, visit a secret Mayan Temple, and jump into an antic canal. You will float in the translucent fresh waters while the soft current carries you across beautiful mangroves. Once back at Muyil, we will celebrate our experience with a wine & cheese pairing of Mexican wine and artisanal cheeses (vegan cheese options included). You will learn about the Mayan culture, enjoy the wildlife of the Sian Ka’an, a unique eco-system in the world ~ renewing our connection to the natural world around us. Your excursion includes an English speaking guide, transportation, entrance fees to the Sian Ka’an, boat transportation and our wine & cheese pairing.
Your Day Trip to the Ancient Mayan Ruins of Tulum
The pre-Columbian Mayan Ruins in Tulum sit atop 39 foot limestone cliffs, along the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. This ancient site was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Mayan people and it is still used today for Mayan rituals. We will visit three famous structures at the Tulum site: (i) El Castillo (ii) the Temple of the Frescoes, and (iii) the Temple of the Descending God. The spectacular ‘Temple of the Frescoes’ was used as an observatory for tracking the movements of the sun. Niched figurines of the Maya ‘diving god’ or Venus deity decorate the facade of this temple. The ‘diving god’ is also depicted in the ‘Temple of the Diving God’ in the central precinct of the site. A stucco figure of the ‘diving god’ is still preserved above the entrance on the western wall, giving the temple its name. Your excursion includes an English speaking guide, transportation, and entrance fees.
