A Spiritual Retreat to Machu Picchu
Join Pineapple Yoga + Cycling Studio this September 2022 for a personalized yoga retreat to Peru with Claudia Baeza—a professional yoga therapist from the Kripalu Center For Yoga & Health. The 5 day spiritual retreat will focus on rejuvenation and deep tranquility—culminating with two visits to Machu Picchu, a 15th-century Inca citadel located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru on a 2,430-meter/7,970-foot mountain ridge.
Day 1 – Tuesday September 6, 2022
Welcome to Cusco + Visit to Chinchero Town
Accommodations: Willka T’ika Luxury Wellness Retreat Center in Urubamba
We will meet in Cusco following your morning flight from Lima. Our English speaking guide will give us a brief welcome and orientation. We will be traveling by private van. If time permits, we will grab a quick lunch or snack and visit the town of Chinchero along the way to our hotel.
We will stroll through the streets of this renowned village with a colorful market where we will find a beautiful array of handcrafted items sold by local artisans. We will attend a short workshop where locals will demonstrate how they expertly dye and spin their yarns and weave textiles. We will then continue our scenic journey through the Sacred Valley to Willka T’ika in Urubamba.
Day 2 – Wednesday September 7, 2022
Pisac Ruins & Market + Temple of the Sun
Accommodations: Willka T’ika Luxury Wellness Retreat Center in Urubamba
We will gather in the morning after breakfast at Willka T’ika and take a private van to the Pisac Ruins. We will have a guided tour of the Pisac Incan Complex which features beautiful farming terraces and the largest burial site of the Incan Empire. In late morning, we will begin our descent from the ruins to the Pisac Market (the path has steep, flat and narrow areas). We will stop at the Temple of the Sun along the way and enjoy a box lunch prepared for us by Willka T’ika. We will experience the colorful, bustling Pisac Market — a great place to purchase handcrafted souvenirs and items for your home. There are also cafés nearby where you can enjoy a beverage and relax. In the afternoon, we will return to Willka T’ika to rest and enjoy dinner.
Day 3 – Thursday, September 8, 2022
Ollantaytambo + Ñaupa Iglesia
Accommodations: Willka T’ika Luxury Wellness Retreat Center in Urubamba
After breakfast at Willka T’ika, we will depart by private van for Ollantaytambo. We will begin a guided walking tour of this incredible city known as a “Living Inca City”, where the residents continue to live according to the ways of their ancestors. We will walk along the narrow cobblestone streets of this charming town, then visit its impressive Incan fortress. Afterwards, we will have time to explore and have lunch on your own. Following lunch, we will head to Ñaupa Iglesia, a seldom-visited Incan w’aka – or sacred cave – located in the town of Pachar. We will enjoy a leisurely walk up stone steps to this sacred cave and then have time for meditation, yoga, prayer… We will return to Willka T’ika in the early afternoon.
Day 4 — Friday, September 9, 2022
Machu Picchu in the Afternoon
Accommodations: Inkaterra Hotel, Machu Picchu Pueblo
Taking only a small overnight bag and a daypack (25 liters or less), we will head to the Ollantaytambo train station (the rest of our luggage will be taken to Antigua Casona San Blas and kept in storage). We will board the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, and enjoy stunning panoramic views on this beautiful journey along the Vilcamayo River. Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, we will walk to Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel to drop off our small bags. Following lunch on your own, we will meet at the bus station and make our way to Machu Picchu – the 15th century Incan citadel and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We will enjoy a guided tour and exploration of this magnificent archeological site. Following the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes by bus and return to Inkaterra Hotel where you can enjoy dinner.
Day 5 — Saturday, September 10, 2022
Machu Picchu in the Morning + Huayna Picchu Mountain
Accommodations: Antigua Casona San Blas, Cusco
Following an early breakfast at Inkaterra Hotel, we will gather and head to the bus station to visit Machu Picchu for a second time. We will leisurely cross through the citadel until we reach the base of Huayna Picchu Mountain. From there, we will ascend the ‘young mountain.’ This is a moderately challenging steep climb along narrow steps, but the stunning views from the top are well worth the effort. We will return to Aguas Calientes by bus, and you’ll have lunch on your own. Afterwards, we’ll return to the hotel to get our bags and head to the train station for our return trip to Ollantaytambo on the Vistadome. Once we arrive, we will begin our journey back to Cusco by van. Around dinner time, we’ll arrive at Antigua Casona where our luggage will be waiting for us. Here we will enjoy our farewell dinner in Cusco together and celebrate the adventure of a lifetime!
