We explore many traditional yoga topics, based on the Yoga Sutras– like the Yamas (moral code), Niyamas (concepts of self-discipline), Asanas (postures), Pranayama (mindful breathing), Pratyahara (detachment of the senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), Shivasana (rest), Samadhi (states of union and bliss); the connection between Ayurveda and yoga, the Chakra system, the subtle anatomy, and more.

What sets our program apart from all others is the depth and focus on core yoga teaching and principles that relate to your inner experience. We set time for introspection, reflection, and earnest consideration of the SELF in a way to positively connect with your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and core values. This opens a unique window on your path which reveals your deepest and truest self.

The studio is committed to trauma sensitive yoga, yoga for special populations and the belief that yoga is for everybody.

Core Curriculum for RYT200 Certification

The core curriculum at Pineapple Yoga + Cycling Studio reflects the new standards set forth by Yoga Alliance, the certifying body for yoga instructors around the world.

These new standards emphasize key learning goals and desired outcomes which all yoga teaching schools must be in compliance with.

Pineapple Yoga + Cycling Studio’s program includes all 4 categories and 12 competencies as required by Yoga Alliance for certification.

In addition, each trainee will be assessed by PYCS based on the knowledge, skills, and experience required by Yoga Alliance prior to graduation and certification as a 200-hour yoga instructor to ensure comprehension and understanding.

Key Components of Your Training

A total of 160 hours of your training will be in-person or virtual and another 40 hours will be done online for a total of 200 hours.

The curriculum focuses on 4 Core Competencies:

  • Techniques, Training and Practice
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Yoga Humanities
  • Professional Essentials

75 hours of your training will be dedicated to the first competency: Techniques, Training and Practice. We will explore Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath) & Subtle Body (energy) and Meditation.

The second competency, Anatomy & Physiology, will be done virtually and in a shared group environment. 20 hours of Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics will be done online, with another 10 hours in a group setting for a total of 30 hours.

Yoga Humanities, the third competency is a very important part of our program. We believe it is vital to understand the history and philosophy which gave rise to the rich tradition of yoga and the ethical precepts that it is based on.

20 online classroom hours are dedicated to this topic and an additional 10 hours will be completed virtually or in studio for a total of 30.

Finally, 50 hours are dedicated to the fourth competency, Professional Essentials.

This includes yoga methodology, professional development and your practicum.

As part of this requirement, trainees are asked to teach a minimum of five 60 minute public classes for friends and family at the studio during your training. The remaining elective hours are dedicated to the 12 competencies covered in your yoga teacher training.

To fulfill graduation requirements, trainees must log at least 30 classes taken during a 3-month period (the duration of RYT200 training) at any studio. This log is due at the final training session and should include the following information: class name, name of instructor, name of studio and instructor’s signature.
