A Mediterranean Diet is mainly comprised of eating plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, lean meats and fish. Known as the world’s healthiest diet, it aids in keeping level body weight, balanced blood glucose levels and a reduced risk of depression. So, what’s the trick? How do we do it? First, get rid of saturated fats, anything but Olive oil, and sodas (sugared or sugar-free) and add a glass of red wine to your dinner routine. Replace butter and margarine with Olive oil in both your savory and sweet cooking recipes. A key component is to set time aside to savor your food as a ritual. Don’t eat in front of the TV or computer–instead find a friend to share a meal and a nice conversation with. Introduce these changes one at a time and watch your diet improve all on its own!
