“You’re too sensitive”
“Get over it”
“Toughen up”
“These symptoms are in your head!”

These are just some of the things I heard over and over as I navigated the world as a sensitive soul.

I was born with a sensitive nervous system. I have strong feelings (both positive and negative) and I absorb the emotions of others around me. I am empathetic and compassionate, but growing up society did not teach me to value my sensitivity. Instead I learned to feel weak and embarrassed for feeling as much as I did. For years I struggled with chronic illness, anxiety and depression. I lacked self-worth, and I felt alone. I had no idea that I was one of the approximately 20% of people who are highly sensitive. Maybe you are highly sensitive too.

Luckily, I did not resign myself to feeling weak and disempowered. Instead, my sensitivity became my teacher as I studied and learned all I could about holistic healing, yoga, nutrition, self-acceptance and cultivating a positive outlook. I learned to take control over my sensitivity and in doing so, to help compassionately empower others to do the same. What I had thought of as my weakness ended up being my biggest strength!

One afternoon, in the fall of 2015, I had a strong feeling that I wanted to share my journey and the lessons I had learned along the way in a book. Once I made the decision to write, I began working on my book, Empowering the Sensitive Soul, immediately. My book began as just a simple list of lessons in my journal that had changed my life for the better. The list turned into an outline, then a rough draft, then many, many more drafts until it eventually became a finished product that I can now hold in my hands.

The process of writing the book taught me many things, most importantly that you can truly reach your goals, you just have to break them up into tiny steps and consistently make forward progress. While it was a lot of work, and I didn’t get to relax quite as much as I would have liked throughout the process, I stayed committed to my goal. Genuine commitment was the reason I was able to finish the book, and I believe it is also the main factor in achieving anything you desire. And if I can achieve my goal, I know that you can achieve yours. I believe we can do anything we set our minds to!

My work as a wellness coach, author and yoga teacher is now centered around helping other sensitive people feel healthy, empowered, and positive about themselves and their lives. I am thrilled that my book can be a resource not only for sensitive souls, but also for anyone who knows a sensitive soul and wants to understand their perspective better. I believe this world desperately needs more compassion and empathy, and those are the areas where sensitive souls excel. We need more caring, sensitive people to find their strength so that they can share their much-needed healing gifts with the world.

Please join me in celebrating sensitivity and empowerment with a donation based gentle yoga class on Saturday, April 29th at (time?). The class will be supporting Girls Inc. a local non-profit dedicated to empowering girls to be strong, self-confident and well rounded individuals. Afterwards there will be a book signing, time to mingle and complimentary snacks and drinks.

I look forward to meeting you!

Love and light,
